Waking up on Wednesday to a blanket of snow! A quick cold snap is crossing over the Alps as I write which has given the first big snowfall down to altitudes as low as 700m. Around 20cm fell in some places in the Haute Savoie last night and according to Chamonix Meteo another 20-25cm is expected tonight. Add to that the frequent snow showers during today and we're looking at around half a metre in some places!
There's an old Savoyard farmer's saying "Snow before Toussaint, wicked winter to come" - Toussaint, November 1st, is the last French bank holiday before Christmas - so let's hope that this old tale holds true!
